This page is about the performance of my own portfolio from the beginning in 2016 to the most recent annual numbers.
I started in 2016 just prior to the Brexit referendum which caused a lot of commotion in the markets. Many shares of companies that have dealings with Great Britain went down because of uncertainty and at almost the lowest point I bought my first shares. That same year was also an election year in the United States and I was convinced that Donald Trump would win. Here I predicted also correctly that first the share prices would go down a bit because the Democrats (which would have raised taxes) were on the winning side, however that Donald Trump would win and so share prices would go up again.
2017 was not a very active year for me. I took some money out, this also explains the little return I made that year, and actually I sold all my shares and other assets.
2018 was not an active year either. I bought some Apple stocks, which I still have today.
2019 on the other hand was a very active year for me. I transferred some more money into my account and bought a lot of stable assets, such as the LYX World Water U ETF.
In 2020 I became the 25th Chief Investing Officer (CIO) of De Zilveren Rijder, the student managed investment fund of Nyenrode Business University. For this reason, my own portfolio got less attention.
End 2021 marks the end of the board year in De Zilveren Rijder. During this year the focus was on improving the vertical integration and creating more educational partnerships. At the end of the year we were also mentioned in het Financiele Dagblad, regarding whether there should be an increase in regulations on investing in order to protect the young novice investor. That article (in Dutch) can be found here.
Please look at the graphs and figures below, to see the mixture of my portfolio per year and the annual average rate of return.
